Report 8 : Iridium IK20L plugs, Wurth Soundproofing & Stebel Nautilus Twin Airhorn
hi guys,

Went to klauto today to meet jmbkit for small TT & also metup w rhett who was also there. So decided to get some things installed. So did the above 3 things first, while I kept my discipline fr spending more. Sorry tis thread is a combination of a few things installed BUT think it’s the most matching.

1st test – Stebel Nautilus Air horns

initially i thought i installed the normal stebel ...

after searcing the web, I seriously don’t know which nautilus range I installed cos mine looked rather huge compared to the above. Around 4” by 6” in size. Jmbkit + rhett saw it. Went to stebel website & it could be the Nautilus BRIO

These horns are SUPER SUPER SUPER loud ! sound macam lorry + train horn COMBINED !

sTEBEL Horn was installed in front of radiator just under the front chassis beams & requires removal of the front bumper.

2nd test – Soundproof 4 Door panels

Decided to proof my doors with wurth, there was an alternative called Sikamat …. But having tested & comparing both materials, Wurth still better.workmanship fr klauto still top notch & they were careful in taking out my door panels & didnt soil by interior

Once complete (1.5hr job), wah very very impress, door closes with a confident “continental car door” thud !!! knock on the door, very densed feeling as well !!!! Switch on my stock ice (but tuned with phase polarity alignment), … wah start with Pussydolls’ BEEP …. The bass fr the front doors were very TIGHT & plastic panels don’t rattle no more. Put on Cai Xin & Belaian jiwa for vocals …. Wah …. Good vocals. Very fat & meaty mid range….. so far quite satisfied.

p/s - bro drthein, jmbkit, torxwrench a very gd recomendation fr u guys !!!! shld hv done it earlier

3rd Test – Ampang Elevated Hi-way parallel to jln ampang

tis is to test the overall feeling of the car…. It was ady 7pm, first thing while drivin out klauto into seasons hotel is how the car feel torqueir !!! yes, didn’t expect it at all. After 15mins of weaving in & out of the traffic, I noticed I can only hear tyre noise coming fr the fenders … urgggh. Tis was a passing remark tat des said …. Aiyo some more poison ady.

Once I got to the free roads on the elevated hiway – man !!!! the car came alive !!!! yes …. Alive …… with the iridium plugs, power delivery seemed faster … car felt very eager to LARI & PECUT away ! (actually with a more efficient fuel burn, feeling of more power). I could reach 120kph w/out stepping pass 3200rpm. Impressed ???? I was. So as usual hv to pay toll & off I was again. Wah ….. with the sound proofing, the car was cuttin thro the evening traffic smoothly, no excessive cabin noise but now the tyre noise getting isolated as the other wind noise reduced substantially. came to the mid-way zig zag & took it at 120kph... heh3x dont try tis la cos i m very use to tis stretch ady.

With this new found feeling, I switched on the car ICE …. Yes yes yes, driving bliss at 140kph heh3x.

Other interesting matters

I didn’t take any pics cos I was bz talking to one of the designers of the Mytheology lighten pulley wheels. Only available for FD 2.0 now but if we can get him a sample 1.8 pulley, he will do 1 for us. I sat down to learn the technical rationale of the pulley & how they manufacture theirs…. Etc etc. tis I will leave for another FR once jmbkit can get him a stock pulley. But understood the relevance of harmonic damper , resonance & pulley weight.

While I was there, des also introduced to me a gd alternative immobliser. Those interested can pm me, forum rules not to discuss car security publicly.

4th test : MRR2 Hi-way Cheras - Ampang

its 1230am, took a quick 20m drive to test the new mods.

1. iridium IK20L plugs are really WORTH the $$ spent

2. Wurth doorpanel Soundproof , i give tis 3x
- i turn on hotel california... had to tone down the bass -1 then only can put to vol 28 and let the vocals really sing & percussions roll out. sweet ! enforced panels made the vocals & rhythm meatier, fatter & bold. bass was very controlled BUT need to tone it down a bit.
- tried Belaian jiwa as another reference. vocals came out s though innuedo was just singing 4ft away (by the way i tried des estima ice project - very poison car, dont sit in it or else u will get super ICE poison arrows !)
- then put Every breath u take + Sweet child of mine ... tis song kira uncle punya song ady ... brings a lot of Hard Rock memories fr 10 years ago.

3. Stebel Nautilus Horn ... i give
- w soundproof actually not loud fr cabin but when i stepped out, it was more like OMG ! pai seh3x when horn people.

overall the car glided firmly on the undulating MRR2. took corners with more aggression as well tis evening. as usual, can hear the suspensions & gas shock going up & down with road noise. motorbike go thro can hear but only at ear level , no more coming fr the road like previously.

i must say i m most impressed with the power delivery brought about by a little change of plugs as well musical improvement fr sound deadening materials.

$$ well spent today ... my thinking of maybe get klauto mod a seperate button for my stebel horn & use it sparingly ... still maintain stock horns

4th Test - MRR2 --> Kesas Hiway--> Sunway

Tis morning went on my usual route go see client.... but tis morning it was different feeling. i purposely did not switch on the radio. just wanted to feel how the car is doing 60-80kph, 100-120kph then 140kph and above

a) at 60-80kph, the car was moving along. as i pass by the honda kapcais .... it was a weird sensation. normally i can a circular radius of around 2ft around my ears today, the motor sound only like separuh, coming thro the side window screen only. tyre noise is more noticeable cos wind noise is reduced. as the car go thro some speed breakers nearing the kesas toll, can hear the sound isolated clearly ... why ? cos the tyre fenders area got no SP.

b) at 100-120kph, car was like a parasail boat gliding thro the traffic. just after the kinrara interchange on kesas is a long uphill climb. the car just go up w no hesitation, no restlessness , no breathlessness. ok i was impressed. dont hv to give extra tap like b4. and car can accelerate w/out goin pass 3k rpm mark even if go pass also it will reach around 3.8k then quickly fall back to 2.5-3k rpm.

c) at 140kph & above - i find the car entirely stable. very eager to go faster BUT i stop myself cos kesas got 2points where there are traffic speed camera. then i switch on the stock ICE. this is when music ring playfully into my ears. it was entirely joyful ride of sorts. even reach my client office also i wait until song finish only get down.... Wink

when i went off, continue to test the ICE. i had to rush to Wegro cheras to get my car serviced. but while i know i need to get there by 3pm but somehow there was no sense of rush. yes, i drove faster but the car was so controlled in getting to higher speed marks tat its amazing how well mannered the engine has become. no need to provoke it. even on slight tap, the engine will rev more but engine sound not as audible.

BUT out of curiousity, i tekan all the way just b4 bkt jalil b4 last kesas toll. my goodness, the engine did not scream like previous EK engine , somehow the engine revs sounded more like a bassy growl of a bear as the rpm zoom pass 5k. the car speed climbed steady , quickly BUT constantly. no sudden turbo boost jerking like pouncing to attack the road.

i climbed fr 90kph to 170kph in no time. oh yes, wind noise gets into the cabin pass 155kph mark ... tis is fr the previous 140kph.... basically can drive tis car 120-140kph & it is fairly silent on the highway BUT ICE on . the combination of new found power delivery & increased driving experience fr the improved sound system left a small smirk & white smile to make my afternoon.

so far i notice after the SP, the downside is only showing the shortcomings of the stock tyres & .... a gd idea to SP the fenders. i probably live w it another few more mths & need to decide if i will stay w stock 16" or upgrade to 17" rims....

anybody here gona trade in their 2.0 stock 6-spoke rims. i m now interested to get it if price is reasonable. any body here ????

Re-do Horn
Guys - after mulling about it , i went to klauto after getting my 25k service done at 5pm.

i got them to put back the old stock horn and add re-wire of addn push button on the VSA panel..... des offered to do a flicker switch for me, ie switch 1 or 2 but horn using the steering head....

i decided not to do it cos very leceh la. at least now i got 2 places to tekan if i damn pissed off .... for those who are still wondering how loud are the stebel nautilus .... its FREAKING LOUD ... image a train or boat horn !

tis new feature cos me some rm80 for workmanship cos remove bumper again, then rewire etc. but worth it la. i drove to my next meeting and aiyo some joker at the roundabout took his time to turn,.... use my stock horn he pretend dont know. use my STEBELs ... ha3x he angkat tangan say sorry & quickly went along ... Wink

the brand i used is called Wurth, german mali. did a stainless steel plate test on it. used a strip mesasuring 1cm x 3cm of wurth & sikamat. stick on the steel plates suspended on a piece of string than hit like a gong. the one w wurth got the best dampening. nearly deadsound !

it loks like a sticky black flexible rubber material.outer surface macam croc skin & is about 2mm thick.

stick on to innner side door panels . no pics to share w u though.u may wana search torxwrench soundproofing thread which he posted.

Ed bro,

Not Thud lah on the doors but DUB lah... Very Happy.

Great to see u in action again. ( after MIA for maaaany months ,man).

Deca bro, winding down front windows on fast highway runs May Not save petrol as wind resistance is higher. Wind down rear windows as well, then maybe can lah Wink

Got new poison Twisted Evil . My bro Bob ( Mr. Prez, u know him, our new member from Putrajaya) is very impresed with our new Rear Silicone Spring Damper. Makes his butt more stable. Now he is in front of me making noise " where is my Front damper?".

Cheers,

Desmond

Hey Ed,

Hope to kena honk by you sometime. Wonder how loud the Stebel Nautilus Air horns really are?

I'm worried that our JPJ too much free time, first go after tinted windows and HID, not enough - if some people start to highlight, maybe they will chase cars with loud air horns next. I can see it now, they will come up with ambiguous guidelines (sound must be < X db, frequency range from A to B, define max SPL, etc.), then can start having a field day.... Mr. Green
