Recently, my steering puts out this whining sound whenever i turn the steering to the left. At first i thought it's the power steering fluid, as i saw the level was on the low side, but when i went for service recently, they told me it is the steering rack problem, and thus the need to change it arises. They told me it would take 1-2 days to order the part from HQ (if they have one) and another day to install it. Which brings the question :
Why is my car's steering rack giving me problems when i've only used the car for about a year? And i need to bare for the labor cost, although the problem comes from Honda's part?
Secondly, my driver side window keeps bouncing up and down again. The problems, they say is dust accummulating on the rubber.Another flaw. Was advised to put some oil once in awhile to keep that from happening.
Lastly, the knocking 'tung!' sound coming from the left hand side of the vehicle. I have went for service for 3-4 times now and complained about that each time, but everytime i test drive the car with a mechanic, the noise dissapears like magic!
I love my Civic, but due to the lack of quality service and parts/manufacturing, i will never buy another Honda again. (if i can afford it!) |

All the compromises that we have to made for our beloved HONDA.
Sometimes, it feels like driving the previous car that was sold to buy the new Honda. So sad..
My usual type of remedy? Press the accelerator hard and enjoy the road. Add in some pedal shifter technique here and there and the sad feeling goes away. Repeat as necessary. |

Recently also noticed the whining sound on my FD1 when I'm turning my steering wheel. Sent to SC and they also told me its the steering rack problem. Asked the SC hy such a new car will have this problem..he told me most probably its because this is Made in Alor Gajah Car. Seems like quite a few cars got this problem (SC technician is also my friend)
SC ordered and fixed it for me 2 days ago. Which SC did u send your car to? All my warranty claim did not incur labour charges. My receipt only shows the parts they changed...followed by WARRANTY CLAIM and the next column is LABOUR...WARRANTY CLAIM.
On the window issue, I've got that before also. They told me to use silicone spray to clear the dust. If the problem happens in a place where u cannot use the spray, u can still power up your window..just dun use the auto function...press the power up manually until it is fully closed.
Hope this helps. |

i tot i'm the weird one wit noises on my steering.. so i am not.. luckily.. i've also got the same noise.. but in my case, it doesn't matter if its left or right turn... it'll still be the same...
as for the window thingy, i also have the problem as well.. but just not as often... but again, if its an issue that need to be solved, then i need to inform my SC as well on the next service...
and i thought only Proton have this kind of small issues... DAMN!! this is ridiculous... _________________ Power of Dreams ain't my limit.... |

nothing is perfect in this world... at least Honda can replace it FOC within warranty... a hassle tho but still FOC. P@@ton has warranty too... any success claim tho for power windows???
Honda SC will sure try to fix or do workaround but at the end they will replace whatever after they giveup or the symptoms get worse. This surely requires lots of patient.
My FD1 currently has the same symptom with the steering whinning and even worse during corners got whirring noise from front wheels. Complained and they checked wheelbearing but bearings are OK plus the tyre noise is pretty bad as already 43K km usage.
Thanks to your insights I finally changed new donuts and the SC technician can now differentiate the noise. I'm expecting for part replacement (loose/worn steering rod or shaft.. not sure) within a week or so. Hopefully that will solved it.
Anyway to be truthful, I'm the kind of driver that pushes my car darn hard.. not only engine or speed but potholes or speed bumps don't matter much to me as long the sportrims can take the force. So at the end of the day if Honda can replace the parts FOC .. I'm totally satisfied.
Now my FD1 clocking 44K km with under 18months of ownership.

i also face the same probs for my new FD1. The windows prob can be fixed since this is due to the tinted and the tightness of the rubber. I have no prob for almost 2 months++ after i went to the service center. They open my driver's door and d re-constructure the allocation.
For the steering rack's noise...still can't figure out how to trigger it to show to them when i go for my 2nd service... |

went to SC to check on the steering rack noise.. damn.. they told me that can't confirm if its the steering rack.. so the only way to tell is to totally flush out the power steering oil.. and add in new oil... which costs me RM150!! i asked why is it not under claim and they said its not part of the warranty claim...
and after all the hassle confirm its the steering rack problem... SC said 2 weeks to order and 2 days to install.. now its the 3rd week.. and no one called yet!! they're goin to get it from me soon!!! _________________ Power of Dreams ain't my limit.... |
