Bros,
I'm excited!!!! I just got this GPS+GSM tracker from ebay for a cool RM500. Consider cheap lah for unit with such function eh... Item was shipped from Hong Kong took around 10 days to arrive. No tax.
Dimension: 6.4cm x 4.6cm x 1.7cm
Weight: 50g

Just got an XPAX starter pack and got it activated for 2 years.
Tested the unit and it works wonderfully. It gets GPS signal faster than my Garmin 200w..
Next step is to hardwire this unit into my FD!!!! Not sure which particular location to put yet... somewhere secret enough but somewhere where can get signal... |

Best keep it a secret and not discuss it too openly here.... _________________

please report your finding here bro..
this might be next great project for our FD member..
the cost to install fully gps/gsm tracker nowadays is exorbitant..! some more need to pay yearly fee..
so.. celcom x pax.. how much the cheapest starter pack?
combined with gps., then we can track this via google maps..and google latitude.
(fyi - latitude have option to add friends id to your gps map, so friends can add any ID and help to track)
I've been using google map and latitude on my blackberry.. and had notification set, if any of my added friends are nearby to buzz me..! many friends are quite surprised.. when i msg them.. saying.. they are nearby .. let's have teh tarik.. (sometimes they forgot that they allow me to add them via latitude)
you can install google map in any hp nowadays. pretty handy tools to have. |

i got the celcom xpax activated for 2 years which is RM50. You can call the number and it will sms you the car location and speed. It also comes with server software that links with google map. You can activate the GPRS on the unit to continuously monitor your car on the net but it'll be expensive.
You can send commands to the unit via SMS as well. Can ask the unit to send location to you every fixed interval. Can set a perimeter and unit will send SMS if car is out of perimeter... got a several more function on this but i forgot already. need to read the manual again..
so far the unit has no problem but you know la GPS has its strength and limitation. If go inside parking garage no signal already. If you got spare money better go with some service company like Raptor or something. |

this unit can accept USB power. so, what i did was to get a cigarette lighter to USB power, repackage the circuit box and hardwire them. |

when you say - hardwire - what do you mean by that - how did you actually do ? is it complicated?
i'm quite interested in this project. |

by hardwire i meant just connecting it in a more permanent way.. i soldered the cigarette - usb power module to the usb wire that comes with the GPS unit.
I think this is not complicated.. just need DIY spirit and some research..
