2-3 minutes like that, then just shift to N and pull handbrake. If its like, every few seconds want to move (like traffic jam) then just leave it in D and press foot brake.

We arent professionals by far... just speaking from experience only, so take what we say with a grain of salt...

Anyway, if you wanna drag race, and its for money ... or your life depends on it, ... then the fastest way (and the most destructive way) is to put the car in neutral, press accelerator all the way, rev high high, then slam it into D and burn rubber...

But like I have said, this is a very destructive method, as you are causing very very severe shock to the tranny...

For other cases, standard drag etc etc, just put it into D, left foot press the foot brake, right foot press the accelerator only enough to tension the whole system (around 1/4 accelerator travel should be enough in most cases) then when you are ready to go, lift off the brake and slam the accelerator home...

Forget about using the D1-D2-D3 method. That way serves no purpose, as the automatic tranny will shift for you at the proper time anyway.

Just remember one thing.... use the D1 or D2 or D3 only to LIMIT the highest gear that the tranny will change too, in the case you want to have engine braking etc etc...

An auto box is NO WAY a manual transmission, so dont drive it like one....

Bro legrunt,
Thanks for the valuable info ,will listen to your advice.

Some time ago, on my way to Ipoh, my daughter accidentally kicked my Vios into N while on the highway. I let go of the throttle, shifted back into D, waited awhile until the transmission sync-ed with the engine once again, and stepped again on the throttle to resume cruising speed.

There was no jerking, skidding through this episode, fortunately. Need a car with one of those zig-zag gated transmissions. Also, daughter have to sit behind already....

same happens to me bro...
few days ago my kids accidentally kick the gear lever to N..
Whenever i heard the engine rev high n i noticed the gear already
in N position..what I do just pull the gear to D and my car shock
a while n then back to normal speed...but i just curious if my action
will damage my gearboxlifespan??
I just think for better security all AT gear must lock from D to N..,
same with from N to R and P...sigh..

Next time, let the RPM drop first, THEN shift back to "D". All torque converters have some sort of freewheel mechanism that lets them spin freely one way, but engage when going the other way. When your engine spins faster than the gearbox, thats engaging the torque convertor. thats why rev kau kau and engage to D is really bad for the gearbox. On the other hand, when your gearbox is spinning faster than your engine, shifting to D wont do anything significant, because the torque convertor freewheels. THEN when you press the accellerator, it engages smoothly.
