Back to Back Comparo between STOCK Honda ecu, Hondata Reflash and Pentagon Js Racing Reflash.......... PART 1
With heaps of discussion going on about the re-flash options we have for the fd2r, I have made a Comparo between the 3 mentioned above.
The idea came about after a lot of Hear/Say statements from a lot of parties. Was given the opportunity to test all 3 of them on the same day, same car, same DYNO, similar air Temp. (1pm-3pm) and I thought, why not hey?
DYNO Graphs for the 3 different ECU maps will be attached in PART 2. I will also include a Road driving review as well as a SIC Tracking review in later part as well.
Surprisingly, the Stock ECU timing is actually quite aggressive! We shall elaborate more on the later two based on the STOCK ECU mapping.
Both the Hondata and Pentagon J’s reflashes gains around 20whp in the mid range over the stock ECU mapping. They also have different peak power reading with Pentagon J’s recording the highest HP/Torque figures.
The Hondata and Pentagon J's racing reflash are both being tuned in different approach and goals in mind.
As many of you would ask, Is Hondata Better? Or will Pentagon J’s reflash wins this comparo hands down!?
To Be Continued……..
*Note: This is and will be based on my personal experience/opinion and tested feelings only* |

Back to Back Comparo between STOCK Honda ecu, Hondata Reflash and Pentagon Js Racing Reflash.......... PART 2
Hondata Reflash
Hondata is a very well known and established brand with its lines of ECU. Back in my EP3 days I was using their K pro and it is a superb ECU without any doubts. This is probably why it is widely used in different part of the world, clearly one of the favorite tuner’s choices for Honda!
As for the current Hondata Reflash for FD2R, it is tested, and was used in many FD2R for months with no problem reported to date. Bare in mind that some of these users are driving it on a daily basis and some frequent the SIC more than Honda Service Centre! Hondata Reflash is indeed a very good and reliable ECU. This Reflash is a result in both hondata USA and UK. It is said to be tuned in the UK. Naturally, I would assume they are tuning using UK pumped fuel.
Some of the known Facts are as follow:
1) VTEC Point has been lowered to 5000 RPM
2) There is a VTEC window between 5000 and 5700 RPM (Part throttle will not engage the VTEC until after 5700 RPM, where as WOT will immediately initiate the VTEC crossover at any point between 5000 and 5700)
3) The Rev limit has been raised to 8700 RPM
4) The Speed limiter has been removed (real speed displayed, up to 263km/h)
5) The secondary oxygen sensor has been disabled. (There will be no error code if race headers are used.)
6) The ignition timing has been advanced
7) The Cam angle has been optimized for better breathing.
 No more factory Immobilizer
~This Reflash has only been tested with stock cams~
**The exhaust must be less restrictive than stock. Some aftermarket systems are more restrictive than stock and cause power loss** |

Back to Back Comparo between STOCK Honda ecu, Hondata Reflash and Pentagon Js Racing Reflash.......... PART 2
Pentagon J’s Racing Reflash
J’s racing from Osaka, Japan. I believe they need very little introduction as they have grown significantly over the recent years within the Honda owners. A very recent achievement in Malaysia would be the MME 2008!
This particular Reflash offered by Pentagon J’s racing is different from what we see in Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | as the reflash advertised there are tuned in Japan using RON100; their usual pumped fuel.
In view of the options and disadvantages we have here in Malaysia, Pentagon and J’s racing has been doing some intensive R&D works and they finally came out with the Reflash that is tuned using Malaysia petrol which we can get in our local Petrol Stations. Another good thing is that they are also customizing their MAP in our typical hot and humid weather to better suit the weather conditions here. All these were done by J’s racing president Junichi Umemoto and their tuner/mechanic, Naoki.
Some of the known facts about the Pentagon J’s racing Reflash:
1) VTEC point lowered to 5200 RPM
2) Rev cut has been raised to 8800 RPM
3) Fuel has been optimized
4) Ignition has been optimized
5) Throttle Response has improved
6) Speed cut removed with display of up to 260KM/H
7) Factory Immobilizer will work like stock ECU
**same as hondata, recommended a basic IHE upgrade.
