Hello Guys,

My aircon compressor clutch and coil is failing, SC quoted

Compressor clutch set - RM1044.08
Field Coil Set - RM412.85

may require changing

Compressor Comp - RM3459.54

I am from Penang, warranty expired 4 months ago.

Any one has experience the same problem and is it significantly cheaper to get it outside, any recommendation? Thanks

You may be able to get them cheaper elsewhere. Why not you drop a note to some of our panel shops and ask for a quotation. SC's quote should be the most expensive. And are those prices with the 30% discount for members?

How did your aircon fail? Any symptoms of precautions to share with us?

bro blue is right - since your warranty has already expired.

try to obtain those part numbers, and search outside from authorised parts dealer .. it should be cheaper and get a workshop to install for you.

but u need to be sure that those parts are confirmed as the cause of the air cond failure you are facing or else it would be a waste.

Cheers.

The compressor on my CM5 gone kaput in just 66,000+km and 6 months after the warranty period.
The SC quoted me more than RM4k to replace. I gave them the middle finger and got it replaced outside at just RM 1,500+!!
The OEM Denso compressor that came with my car was made in Indonesia whereas the one I replaced outside is made in Japan.

Sorry for the late reply, have been busy with work. Any panel workshop in Penang and where can I get their contacts?

The Aircon is still working, but according to SC I should get it changed.

Anyway during idling speed the magneic clutch can engage the compressor without any problem, but if you rev the engine the magnetic clutch will slip (can even see sparks), it will engage the compressor but with a little bit of effort. As a driver you cannot tell that there is a problem, you need to look at the magnetic clutch during revving before you notice a problem.

mine is the 1.8

I was told to look out for the air-con magnetic clutch failure.. which will, like quoted to you, cost abt RM1k+ to replace. So far I do not detect any problem or slippage on my car.

But I did not get any info that the coil and compressor will also fail so soon..

What is the mileage of your car when you detected this problem?

I am at 55000km. The guy at the SC said that it usually fails after 3/4 years. He has seen this problem mostly on City's. Just wondering, who told you watch out for this problem? Looks like a design fault.

although I am currently at 55000km, I do not know if this problem was already there earlier before warranty expires. I believe my previous few service was attended by inexperience people, as they could not fix an intermittent problem with my RPM meter.

The last guy that service my car pointed out to me that there is a problem with the magnetic clutch and the RPM meter. Although warranty had expired, I told him that the fair thing to do is to claim for me the RPM meter as it was not fixed before warranty expired. He agreed. However since I have never complained about air con problem before, he could not help me on the mag. clutch.

So Guys, please check this out before warranty expires.

the better shop for replacement your compressor for FD with the same brand&quality (same use by SC) in Penang is at Kebun Sireh.near to petronas station & RHB. if not mistaken this worksyop name is Yenyen Denso. I already change my aircond motor's.SC said it about RM800,but this worksyop sold about RM280.same product(Denso) & same serial number from original (japan).
My opinin, if want change any part of FD, don't change at SC
because they 'ketuk' price about 2,3 time's.look at this comparison(from my experience)

brake pad = 4++(SC) & 1++(normal worksyop)
weel bearing = 600 ++(SC) & 3++(normal worksyop)

Hey Guys,

Tested the aircon problem in front of my mechanic and could not repeat it. Oh well, I am just going to use it until the unit die on me.

FYI, my last visit to the SC, I learn that you can claim warranty for the plastic lining (window sill) discoloration, the problem is
with the quality of the parts. So even though they can replace these FOC, the problem will come back eventually, so I am going to spray paint these with Flat Black.

Best Regards

Hew
