try to show them this diagram.....(probably they will ask u to send back ur engine to Japan.......just kidding), even kancil valve need to be adjusted. I only got the tappet gap for my car though, but the point it should be able to be adjusted.
But a word of caution, it would required a 'very' skillful technician to do it right or else it would be louder and reduce ur engine performance. |

This sound is common for where the owner regular Rev the engine.
My engine are louder than before and louder too when park beside my friend 2mths old FL.
What you can do is ask the SC to adjust according to the spec. They have a special tools like a pack of think steel plate, to test the gap after adjust it to make sure all are within range.
By tighten it engine noise will be more quiet, but will slightly heavy as compare to now(noisy/loose)

Seems like all the SC also tread the common problem as "Normal"...
Who wants to get their hands dirty?
Anyone facing the same problem like me and Kevin?
I'm a bit skeptical leaving my car there for them to adjust the tappet.. In the end of the day, they might not fix anything at all..
Advise please? |
Since I cannot hear it first hand, I am not sure if it is tappet noise or engine noise..
You mentioned the noise appeared after replacing the gasket.. the gasket is at the exhaust so logically should not have any impact on the engine. Unless the SC did something else.
What engine oil are you using and what viscosity? _________________ Do not say things just to show you know what you are saying. Say things which only need to be said. |

Alright just to update you guys...
I left the car in SC for them to adjust the tappet and they reinstall the exhaust gasket by applying sealant.
Indeed the rev noise is lower, but the engine still sound kinda rough comparing with other 2.0 engine.
Then I went to a Honda specialist. They said the tappet won't cause the sound. It might be the tensioner and bad installation of the exhaust gasket. I really don't know who to believe now... crapzz
Thanks for offering your help Kevin. I'll definitely call you when i have the chance... So the mechanic you can recommend solve all your headaches? |

When was in Pg 1, the 1st thing I thought of was; engine oil, and coolride has made a point worth investigating.
In my other car with 4G93 (1.8twincam stroked and modified with Mivec head) I had that problem too many years ago. My engine builder said the same thing...cannot do anything cos its hydraulic and self adjusting. It was a tick, tick, tick sound, and was especially bad when the engine is cold.
Based on advice from a friendly MME competitor, I changed to Mobil semi-synthetic, and the noise was gone.
As the next oil change was coming up, the noise started to re-appear faintly, and was gone again after another change to Mobil semi-syn.
Finally, that engine was used in MME 2006 where Castrol RS fully syn was used (60 oil), and no funny noises at all. I still think the oil has something to do with it. Worth checking.
On the countless FDs that I detail, most of em have that noise, including some new Accords also. |
