yup.. & that's why they called rear strut bar (RSB)..
function definitely the same..as j's & even cusco
it is whether this 'taiwan made' one cheaper or not.. |

j's & cusco one.. hopefully, if anyone out there already got it..
mind sharing, how much $$$ & where to find it?
alutec rear strut/tower bar
... & yes, this thing will compromised a bit ur rear trunk capacity..
p/s: GC usually bring alutec brand right..? but anyone have seen this rear strut/tower bar before |
The bar actually anchors together the tops of the rear absorber struts, much like the front tower bar. Works on the same principle as well...
This is still a potential club project, but I've been rather busy the past few months, no time to fabricate a prototype for self experimentation and exploratory FR....but if the demand for a club project is there, may seriously consider pushing ahead with this.
The Alutec bar looks very well made tho...the bar end collar looks like it is machined from a solid block of aluminium.
CUSCO does a similar design too.....anyone with idea on prices of the Alutec & CUSCO
Or perhaps we can invite a Group Buy for this item, but some one has to organize the order... |

I am highly interested in getting this - infact i was going to purchase the J's racing already .. any confirmation that you would embark on this project ?
One more thing - the comments are that these RSB would cause creaking sounds for the FDs .. any idea why or is this only prevailing in the J's version ? |
AFAIK, this Gawd-awful squeak is only with the J's design...becos the mounting bracket is designed to fit over the top of the rear absorber strut and rests on some rubber collar on the strut.
I think the Cusco or Alutec design will not have this noise prob.
I cannot confirm that the Club project will happen....as previously, there must be sufficient "critical mass" order quantity before the project can kick off.
I foresee tho' that even if it happens, it will be sometime in the future...maybe 6-9 months
Actually I would like to install a DIY unit in my own ride for some really critical testing before putting it out to the Club, to see if the the FD's handling can be improved further. I'm actually ok with the present state of my ride's handling...oredi can sapu a lot of the Bimmers, Mercs, Audi, etc etc at corners & bends....but a bit breathless on the straights.
You may be better off getting a ready-made unit if you are in a hurry... |

Although I'm not in the market for one at the moment. If i were I'd go with the J's. Its better constructed to work more effectively. Not saying the other won't work but the J's construction should work better for extreme use such as track duty. |

I've seen the actual J's Racing rear strut bar, took a pix of it somewhere also...
The J's Racing bar's end brackets are actually fitted onto the rear absorber struts' main steel shafts, before the reinforcement bar is tensioned to hold the rear absorbers at a fixed distance apart.
What the Alutec and Cusco ones do is that their bar end "collars" are bolted to the rear absorber tower structure "neck", they don't actually hold the absorbers shafts as the J's one does. The front tower strut bar works on the same principle of holding the towers and bracing them at a fixed distance.
....The reason why the J's one squeaks, becos it sits on a rubber bush which is located on the original absorber top mount shaft ...Bro Chris, please correct me if I'm wrong on the J's mounting method...
I don't know if there is any actual functional difference whether the reinforcing bar is absorber shaft mounted or whether its tower mounted...but theoretically, holding the absorber shafts would give better compressional or tensional stability, rather than holding/ bracing the absorbers' mounting towers. This might make a difference when cornering hard on the track when the handling is pushed to the max... |
