Thanks Coolride, for the informative article Wink

It confirms what I have been preaching for years:
1. Brand: It might not be a super-premium brand but results can be very impressive. If Paul did not mention it was Nippon, most people would hv thought it to be Glasurit, PPG, Dupont or somethin like that cos its a Beemer that's involved, and it belongs to a serious and knowledgeable car guy.

2. Same brand for all components:
Paint mftrs always stress the importance of using the same brand for all components (primer, base, clear etc etc). That is logical.....but very rare in Msia cos most of the time, sprayers hv their own fav brands for each component, and hv to safeguard their own cost. Some of them believe that locally-made "Brand X" primer is easier to work with and is cheaper than, for example Nippon primer...while giving the same results. If you ask a Glasurit specialist how much it'll cost to spray an FD using FULL Glasurit components (same approach to paul's car), you'll probably walk away..I guess it's no less than RM4500.

3. Proper proceduresThere are certainly proper steps to follow for optimum results.
But to follow these steps rigidly (drying times etc etc), can be very time-consuming and expensive. Car gets stuck in w/shop, and customer can't wait, resprayer cannot make money. Also, those steps/techniques mostly need to be "modified" to suit our local weather conditions. This is where experience comes in. Most of the time, the paint mftr's own spraying facility can follow these processes rigidly as it is company protocol. Their "star dealer", if doing a critical super high-end expensive job might also work closely with the mftr and follow these steps (eg; demo car) But this is rare.

As Paul says correctly, its mostly in the workmanship.

For proper workmanship to be executed, the $$$ and time must be there first. The car owner must be understanding, knowledgeable and willing to accept and spend considerable money. Then...and only then, by using any brands the correct way, fantastic results can be achieved Very Happy

i definitely couldn't agree more.

there is no hard and fast rule - proper workmanship, method and time must be given, what others done overseas may or may not be applicable to us here in Msia due to differences in weather and road conditions amongst others here. Its more of using the correct method and also spending correctly and what yields the best results.

I am sure the term one price, one product also is true but on top of product, I do agree that it also depends on time and good workmanship. Sad to say that respraying is not something that owners will do very often, it is quite difficult to find a reliable one with good workmanship.

BTW, since it was done not using full Glasurit which cost RM4.5k, I wonder how much it cost using Nippon 2K?

You are right.. there are no hard and fast rules but at the same time, one must be a fool to strictly believe or follow blindly whatever that is done overseas, or to the fact, even done locally.

Is all about finding out what the experts do (I use plural here, bcos I believe there are indeed many out there like sifu Pluto), use and try different products, make your own evaluation and judgement. After all, its your own preference and satisfaction.

That is why we should post and share more what other experts, foreign or domestic, are doing so that we, the normal members, can widen our scope of knowledge in this particular area.
