Hi all... With so much hype about autofoam I am already planning to go get it done on my FD. Now just one final question. We all know that the foam is pumped straight into the holes of our chassis and so what happens if say the car *touch wood* crashes? Would the dented area (for example at the door sills which have been autofoam) be able to be knocked back into place my the workshop?

Does anyone know anything about this coz this may cause serious headaches?

autofoam is not a hype but a real good mod tat will enhance your chassis rigidity, improves overall vehicle handling and indirectly, increase occupant safety.

your question is rather open ended but let me try to enlighten u with wat i know ....

1. depends on how badly has the car chassis been breached

2. the side chassis sills of the FD is in fact 2layer chassis (similar to continental)
- AF is done on the inner sills only.
- if outer sill is breached, no problem. can be solved
- if breach is so bad until inner sill oso kena .... it depends on circumstance .... ie, how bad is the dent or crash. why ?
- i think the chances are if until kena inner sill, than the car was in a very very bad crash.
- if its a side impact collision with another car .... tat also means the A or B or C pillars are also breached .... in such cases, u r better off claiming for a full writeoff, or else they would cut the chassis and replace with another potong chassis.

for breached chassis, i hv seen a scooby, bmw, proton & myvi with a breached chassis tat has been knocked back to shape.... met 2 of the owners b4 at klauto.

i suggest u pm mr desmond of klauto to let him give u a more elaborate explanation.

Hi Bro Icequake_00,

Eh, you didn't know my car already 100% foamed? (where ever got hole, already pump foam inside....)

Next time you're in Melaka, we can go for a test drive in my car.

Anyway, you can get some info on Autofoam in the following threads (page 7) :

Anyway, from what I know, foaming does not compromise crumple zone as there are 2 types of foam (hard + soft) which is used in appropriate areas to enhance rigidity and still maintain safety in event of crash at the same time.

As advised by Ed, no better person to explain than Desmond himself.

Hi Bro Ed... When you mentioned that the scooby and myvi had their chassis knocked back into shape I presume that the chassis has been autofoamed earlier on right?

I thought both the inner as well as outer door sills will be autofoamed?

Ya I plan to call bro Desmond to get his inputs on this but since it was pretty late d last nite so I thought why not post it in the forum and see what all the bros think.

talk to da man la bro .... for FD only the inner sills are foamed with the purplish AF. u must remember tat the inner chassis shell is the hardest and is made of hi-tensile steel components. this is to protect occupants in the event of a crash impact. the outer side sill is believe is not AF cos it does not provide any additional benefit.

the front chassis, rear chassis A, B & C pillars use the slightly softer white AF foam. the front & rear chassis points are basically the crumple zones. these were professionally recommended by the AF suppliers fr Germany.

anyway, i suggest u read all the articles on AF in particular the discussion "Any Good and Bad about Car Foaming". there are even scientific articles posted.

there are many benefits derived fr AF-ing ur ride and the only particular downside is its permanent. but for the small $$ invested tat provides improved occupant safety & ride handling+comfort, i personally feel its the best way to spent my $$.

like bro mcwk, i hv also AF every single hole of the chassis u can find tat can be AF .... he3x. pls pm bro Casper fr Penang becos he too has AF his FD.

hope tis helps. here are the article links

I believe the benefits outweigh the downside which for now is only that its a permanent fixture.

Bro quake,
.
hahaah dun worry on this and just go ahead with the foaming. I was once the sceptic since kena open everything to get to the holes, but after kena poison and also seeing Des's boys doing their work, very tempted and took the plunge.
.
same here, every damn hole kena AF already and dunno where next to put.
.
point to remember though, the AF's is flooded all over the car, thus, could end up in the engine bay. Therefore good thing to check the engine bay if there's any excesses coming out. Happen to me but Des's boys helped out to clean the engine bay out..no problem....
.
just need to be careful since the AF poison is great....either you foam little or foam all...most prolly you'll foam all holes...hahahaahha cheers bro

I waited almost 2 years before deciding to AF my ride.. after that, no regrets.

I may be crazy but sometimes on a long stretch of nice road, I just switch off my radio just to enjoy the smooth and quiet ride.

Sometimes I like to drive without music, but the noisy sound from the stock wheels are really irritating. Shall I be disappointed with FD2 cabin poor sound proof or Michellin tyres (supposed to be famous for its quietness) .... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I'm planning to AF my FD2 either after 10K service or after the 20K service.
But if lottery & 4D permits......it might be sooner Smile

Hello folks... I can safely say now that my car have just been AF'ed... hehehe.

I can feel the comfort level has increased. Yet to really test out the handling as I want to wait for it to be fully cured first.

Very Happy

Is a bit of both.. based on feedback, PP1 is not really quiet and yes, sound proof in the FD is poor esp the roof.

When new still bearable, once after >1 yr, then the drumming of the noise get untolerable.. ok ok, exagerate a bit..
